A Historic Moment for Street Sports in Malta
The official opening of the Paola Skatepark marks a major milestone for street sports in Malta, introducing the island’s first professional, purpose-built skatepark. This long-awaited project brings new opportunities for BMX riders, skateboarders, scooter riders, and the wider community to engage in active lifestyles within a safe and modern facility.

The event was spread across two days, beginning with an official ceremony attended by key stakeholders, followed by a public open day where the skatepark was fully activated by the community. The ceremony included speeches, networking, and a street sport showcase featuring BMX, skateboarding, scooter, Inline and breaking, demonstrating the versatility and potential of the new facility.

The second day focused on community engagement, with open sessions, try-outs, and workshops that welcomed people of all ages and skill levels. The skatepark quickly came to life, filled with energy, movement, and a strong sense of ownership from those present. It was especially encouraging to see beginners trying the space for the first time alongside experienced riders.

This project would not have been possible without the collaboration and support of several key stakeholders. Special thanks go to Hon. Chris Bonett, Hon. Miriam Dalli, Steve Ellul, Infrastructure Malta, and the Paola Local Council for their commitment and vision in delivering this important space for youth and sport.
The Paola Skatepark represents more than just infrastructure — it is a platform for youth development, creativity, and community building. It stands as a clear example of how public spaces can be transformed into active, inclusive environments that encourage healthy lifestyles and social connection.

As MSSA continues to advocate for more spaces like this across Malta and Gozo, the opening of Paola Skatepark sets a strong foundation for the future of street sports on the island.
