On December 3, 2024, Paola Square was transformed into a vibrant hub of sports, movement, and community spirit as MOVE and MSSA hosted the final event of the Pump It Street Sport Roadshow Series. Despite concerns about the weather, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of the athletes, youth, and families who gathered to celebrate the power of street sports and active public spaces.
This event was more than just closing the square to cars—it was about reimagining public spaces as inclusive, dynamic areas where people of all ages and backgrounds can come together to move, play, dance, and connect. The square came alive with thrilling BMX, skateboarding, and breaking demonstrations, alongside interactive tryout stations that encouraged everyone to join in the action.
The Pump It initiative has proven how street sports can revitalize public spaces, making them more welcoming and engaging for the community. While this event marked the end of the 2024 Pump It: Empowered Through Sports series, funded by the EU, it’s just the beginning of a broader vision. In January 2025, we will host a special conference to celebrate our achievements, discuss best practices, and explore policy recommendations for making public spaces even more inviting and active.
